The Dot Eco Organization is the environmental community’s voice for the Internet’s .eco domain. Since 2009 we’ve worked with the global environmental community to ensure .eco works for the greater good.

Good news! In 2014 the environmental community was awarded the .eco domain, ensuring it will be operated with community oversight. Keep up to date on our progress to launch – visit the .eco website to sign up for our mailing list, or follow .eco on Twitter.

A history of engagement

Founded in April 2012, the Dot Eco Global Community Organization, or .Eco Organization, is the outcome of a deep negotiation between leaders of the global environmental community. The Organization is keeper of the .Eco Consensus, a unified vision for how .eco can be best run by environmental community for the greater good. Learn more about the history of the organization and the community’s application for the .ECO top-level domain (TLD).

Founded by a global coalition of not-for-profit environmental organizations, we enjoy the support of intergovernmental, international, and national organizations and coalitions all dedicated to achieving sustainable development and environmental protection. Together with our members, we represent one of the largest global environmental coalitions ever established, accounting for more than 1,000 organizations with over 10 million individual, non-profit and business members in 190 countries. The Dot Eco Community Organization is a non-profit based in Canada with a global presence. It has a set of Bylaws designed to unify the community around managing .eco for the benefit of our community, its members, and its goals. The Organization has a contract with Big Room Inc., a Canadian Certified B-Corporation, to run the operational side of .eco on its behalf. The International Institute for Sustainable Development, one of the world’s most respected environmental think-tanks, provides secretariat services. The Organization is run by a Board selected from the membership. A multi-stakeholder Council of members makes recommendations to the Board on policy matters relating to .eco. This includes things like what environmental commitments members need to make when they register .eco domain names. Learn more about the history behind .eco.
